An Encouraging Devotional
Recently while watching Chosen, I wondered to myself if I could live in the same setting as the disciples. By that, I mean living as nomads, sleeping in tents, and being ready to serve alongside my Lord and Savior. I had literally wondered to myself, “Jesus, could I have been your disciple?” And He replied, “You are my disciple.”
At first, I was like, “No, I mean, like, in that time period, with the lack of technology, and the horses, and the Romans…” But then I realized that Jesus did answer my question. Besides, His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9), and He often answered questions to be more general during His time on earth. It doesn’t matter what time period I’m in, I am His disciple. It doesn’t matter when, and it doesn’t matter how…I am His disciple. And that’s the same for you!
Often, we forget that we are supposed to be representing Jesus. Especially when we have multiple tasks at work or we’re out with friends and family. When I’m out and about, I try to keep the mindset that I want others to see Christ in me. I try to love, serve, and do all the things that He has told me to do. Every day I must give up myself to let Jesus take His rightful place as first in my life. I must seek revival, seek forgiveness, and keep God’s word close to me. I have bills, loans, career choices, microaggressions, family, friends to think about. It can be overwhelming! But when we trust God and obey, He turns it into peace that surpasses all understanding. And in the season that I am in now—with God’s peace— all my problems seem dim. Being a disciple of God, brings the peace of God.
So, Whether you’re a new Christian, have been following Christ all your life, or in-between, you are His disciple. Whatever you do, whomever you are with, and however you live, you are His disciple. No matter where you are, you were made for God. We were made to bring glory to God (Psalm 8:4-6). We were made to love God and love others (Matthew 22:36-40). We were made to serve, and to follow Jesus. We all were made to be disciples. Continue to do good and continue in prayer. Let others see the light shining within you.
You are His disciple!
