God Is Waiting For You

It’s a New Year, but did you do enough? Did you check off all of your resolutions from last year? Did you fulfill all your vision board goals? Maybe you’re wondering when God will finally avenge you from your enemies or bless you for all your service and love to others. Whether you felt proud or disappointed last year, accept it. If you fell into sin or wrongdoings, don’t lose heart! Every morning you wake up, is a morning God is there, eagerly awaiting your return. Can you imagine? The God of all creation, who can form things with a single thought and/or breath, is waiting for you to choose Him? Not because He needs us (He doesn’t), but because He wants us. He’s waiting for us, and for anyone who may not completely know Him yet…including your enemies. Let’s put that into perspective by looking at 2 Peter 3:9:
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise…but is patient towards us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
God knows the heart of every man (Romans 8:27), and He knows our ultimate end. But it is also true that He will forgive and show mercy to those who genuinely seek it. 2 Peter 3:9 shows us this loving patience by telling us that God is waiting for us to come to Him. He wanted us to be in His perfect creation from the beginning (Genesis 1:1). And He wants us to turn away from evil to His good. And how does He do it? Through His love, of course! God has shown us love in countless ways, but the best way He showed this love was with Jesus, as told in John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.”
With the New Year, comes a new chance! We all have a second chance to come back to God. And when we do go back to Him, He is already waiting for us, like the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:20-22). And His unfettered determination to bring us home is cemented in Isaiah 1:18:
“‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the Lord, ‘though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.’”
Now if you have doubts that you haven’t been doing enough, God sees you in your hardships as well as in your worships. He sees that you are doing your best, and He sees that you are being made new. He sees that you’ve suffered because of your enemies, and He sees that you sought forgiveness for the wrong you’ve done as well. 2 Peter 3:9 is for reassurance, to remind us that we all still have God’s mercy covering us even when we mess up. God is giving us a second chance every morning, week, month, and year that we are still on this earth.
So be encouraged, and keep going, because there is Someone on the other side of 2026 waiting for you.
